The most common sports injuries today are strains and sprains. Ligaments and muscles are like springs. Stretching beyond a normal range or overusing a muscle easily leads to tearing of the muscle fibres. The seven most common sports injuries are:
1.Ankle sprain
2.Shin splints
3.ACL tear (Knee injury)
4.Patellofemoral syndrome (Knee injury)
5.Hamstring strain
6.Epicondylitis (Tennis elbow)
7.Groin pull (Strain of inner thigh muscles)

Proper conditioning of the body is the best preventive measure from the sports injuries. Out of this bunch of injuries many cannot be prevented, but majority of them are preventable. Maximum injuries occur due the activities our body is not ready for. According to the best sports physiotherapists, proper working out is the best way to make the body ready for almost all kinds of stretching. Every workout should begin with a mild warm up.
Sports injuries due to overusing are very easily preventable. Most sports injury therapists say that one shouldn’t continue in the state of fatigue. Usage of muscles in the state of fatigue kills all the protections shields and makes the muscles vulnerable to the injuries.

In most of the cases, these common sports injuries are curable with everything still at its place. These injuries can easily be treated at home by using home care services. In severe sprains and strains surgery is the only treatment. Sports injuries treatment becomes very important. Every common sports injury can be treated as follows:

A patient undergoing cancer treatment

1.Ankle sprain

Description: Turning of the foot inwards and thus stretching of the weak ligaments on the outer side of the ankle.

Cure: Proper exercising for the ankle to prevent flexibility loss and repeated injury. The exercises should be chosen only after a proper exercise from an experienced doctor.

It’s serious: These injuries are not always moderate. A proper knowledge should be there about when to visit a doctor. Tenderness above the ankle is the signal that a high ankle sprain has taken place. This case should be immediately consulted to a doctor to make sure that there is no separation of the bones in the lower leg.

2.Shin splints

Description: Long running programs might sometimes lead to a pain below the front of the lower legs. These are called shin splints.

Cure: Ice massage is the best cure that can be performed at home apart from taking a proper rest. Pain killer medicines are also considerable

Its serious: The above given cures are the best treatments. Stress fractures  are often misunderstood as shin splints. In case of no positive results, you should visit a doctor.

3. ACL tear (Knee injury)

Description: Anterior cruciate ligament is abbreviated as ACL. It attaches the leg bone with the knee. Sudden hit or stops can lead to strain or tear of the ligament.

Cure:  It becomes important to see a doctor if an ACL tear is suspected.

4. Patellofemoral syndrome

Description: Kneecap is referred to as patella. Damage of the tissue under the kneecap due to repetitive movement of patella against your femur is known as Patellofemoral syndrome.

Cure: Exercises on the quadriceps can cure this syndrome.

5.Hamstring strain

Description: Hamstring muscles are present at the back of the thigh. They are three in number. Running incorrectly, hurdling or falling forward may result in hamstring strain.

Cure: Staying inactive is the best cure. These injuries are slow at healing. Re injuries become very common in this case.

6. Epicondylitis (Tennis elbow)

Description: These are tiny tears in the outside of the elbow’s tendons. It usually occurs during tennis swings or golf. It becomes common at the age of thirty to sixty years.

Cure:  Activities leading to epicondylitis should be avoided.

7.Groin pull

Description: Strain in the inner thigh muscles is called groin. Hockey, basketball and football are the common culprits.

Cure: Taking rest and ice massage are the best cures. Proper rest should be taken until the injury has fully vanished.

It’s serious: In case of swelling, doctor should be seen.

A doctor should be seen immediately in case of excessive swelling, changes in the colour of the skin or any deformities.
