How Yoga helps Jitu Rai to become better at Shooting?

Jitu Rai is India’s hope for winning a medal in the Common Wealth Games (CWG) starting on April 4, 2018. Jitu has already won a Gold for India at the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Cup held in 2017. However, that has not satisfied his hunger for victory.

Jitu prepares hard for the coming games and can feel the pressure associated with these games. Representing ones’ country, sometimes the pressure can be too much. In this sport, where accuracy is of utmost importance, keeping a calm mind is key to victory. For that, Jitu has sought solace in Yoga. About Yoga he says,

“This is my way of easing mental tension. Before every big tournament, I tend to get overburdened by the mounting expectations to perform. This sometimes takes a toll on your mind, body and overall performance. I experienced it (during the 2016 Rio Olympics). Of late, I have totally immersed myself in meditation, yoga and other sports activities. Getting up early and performing the routine has become a habit. It has helped me in developing better concentration levels”

Jitu will be representing India in the 50m air pistol category in the upcoming Common Wealth Games (CWG). He has a long season ahead of him with the Common Wealth Games (CWG), Asian Games, World Championships and a series of World Cups; and we can only wish him best of luck!
