Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been one of the iconic players not only for his cricketing achievements but also for being an ideal sportsman.
Playing against South Africa in the final match of 5 ODI series in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, Dhoni displayed a moment of ‘Cricket Spirit’ by turning healer to Proteas batsman Faf du Plessis who was seen struggling with muscle cramp. Du Plessis was retired hurt after hammering 133 but it was Dhoni’s physic act that stole spectator’s hearts. Now a days, questions are raised over the sportsmanship spirit in cricket but instances such as the one witnessed in Mumbai, the faith gets restored. India and South Africa came in for the final Mumbai ODI after series leveled at 2-2; it was home side that were blasted off by visitors.
The humidity in Mumbai was pretty high at that time .So during his innings of 133 , Faf du Plessis suffered a cramp. The pain did not disappear but increased as his innings proceeded. It was quite evident that he was going through a lot. So while attempting a slog he clutched his hamstring and fell on the ground. Ms Dhoni was the first one to rush to him and volunteer. Dhoni held Faf’s leg and stretched it a bit while South Africa physiologist arrived in the middle.
